Pascagoula public housing reborn

PASCACOULA, Miss. — A new approach to public housing has arrived in Pascagoula. After three years of planning, the growing industrial center has replaced its largest public housing development with two modern, well-appointed apartment buildings — Morrison Village Senior Homes and Taylor Heights Apartments.

In a move away from traditional public housing development, the $32 million Old Mobile Highway project is owned and operated by a private developer who bought the site of the old Charles Warner development from the regional public housing authority. The new owner, Realtex Development Corp., built a mix of public housing, market-rate apartments and at Morrison Village, apartments reserved for seniors.

Louisiana adds construction jobs in May
NEW ORLEANS - Construction was among the sectors that added jobs in May in Louisiana, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. The sector added 4,400 jobs in the month.

$4.4M highway job halfway complete
ITAWAMBA COUNTY, Miss. - Highway upgrades have reached the halfway point in Itawamba County, from the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway to the Alabama line, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
